ABOUT THE BOOK
A harmonious life requires a surplus of physical and mental energy.
That is the core of the simple but powerful message in Chris
MacDonald's philosophy for good health. Danes love his humorous
approach and his ability to motivate people to adopt a healthier
lifestyle without issuing stern admonishments. But MacDonald has a
serious message to convey.
It's ironic that in spite of the fact that we have ever greater
opportunities for preventing life-threatening illnesses, boosting
our energy levels, and keeping our minds active well into old age,
we still haven't learned our lesson. We eat poorly, don't get
enough exercise, and are far too stressed - all of which can make
us sick, run-down, and depressed. Chris MacDonald explains why we
do what we do - but above all he presents accessible and
scientifically based recommendations for what we can do about it,
once we make the decision to change our lifestyle.
The book's message is based on four fundamental factors:
* Mental attitude - All health begins in the mind.
* Restoration - Getting enough quality sleep every night is
essential to the health of the human immune system, the development
of the brain, and the maintenance of energy levels.
* Exercise - Physical exercise is crucial.
* Food - And food should taste good.
These four factors are scientifically examined in individual
chapters. They also form MacDonald's Health Wheel - an instrument
for a harmonious and healthy life.
Using the test provided in the back of the book, the reader can
measure his own health level and use the tools of the health wheel
- complete with inspiring exercise programs, diet advice, and
mental insights - to help increase and maintain his health and
well-being throughout his lifetime.
The book also contains, based on the four fundamental factors,
two chapters written for the parents of children and teenagers
living at home. Of special concern is the lack of exercise that
children get today because they spend too much time in front of the
TV and the computer. The author also discusses the tendency of
teenagers to eat food that isn't good for them.
