ABOUT THE BOOK
This book is a powerful documentary
about the Danish military's historical combat in the blossoming
river-valley called The Green Zone, a wave of attacks initiated
during the fall of 2007, which has led to the toughest battle
involving Danish platoons since the War of 1864.
Writer and journalist Kim Hundevadt has
paid several visits to the Danish soldiers at the frontier in
Afghanistan, and this book is based mainly on their powerful and
moving stories. Furthermore, the author has gained access to a
number of classified documents pertaining to the conflict, pushing
the limits for what the public is able to learn about the war.
EXCERPT FROM THE FOREWORD
The purpose of this book is not to
justify the Danish involvement in the war against the Taleban. Nor
is the purpose to make propaganda in favour of the opposite point
of view - pulling the forces out of the country as soon as
possible.
The sole purpose of this book is to
provide a sober and honest account of what is happening at the
frontlines in Helmand and, if possible, to raise the bar on the
debate about Denmark as a warring nation, a debate often marked by
ignorance.
Besides bringing out these powerful stories from the front, the
book also puts the entire participation in the war in Afghanistan
into perspective, disclosing a number of previously unknown
background information. This information is concentrated in the
beginning of the second part of the book.
Primarily, however, the book revolves
around Section 4, a platoon headed by lieutenant colonel Kim
Kristensen which arrived in Helmand in August 2007 and returned
home in February 2008.
The reason for this focus is that
Section 4 was the first platoon to be thrown into an actual war of
aggression and thus wrote a piece of Danish history. Though not
without great human sacrifice. Five of the soldiers in the division
lost their lives while 10 were wounded in battle. This is the story
of them and their comrades.
Tomorrow We Launch another
Attack is a tough yet candid read, even more so due to the
fact that this isn't fiction but reality in its most unsweetened
form.
