ABOUT THE BOOK
In 1817 the black slave Jan Leton is
set ashore just off the coast of Skagen, the northernmost part of
Denmark, as a gift for the wreck master of the town, Mr. Ole
Christian Lund.
Marie, the daughter of a fisherman, is
struggling to survive at the tip of Denmark when wreck master Lund
offers her a position in his household, but why?
Many unsaid thoughts and unwritten
rules are lurking in the remote community in the middle of the
merciless scenery. Only one thing is for certain: it is the sand,
the ocean and the wind that set the rules for living here.
Dead Man's Mountain is the story of man
and fate, of adapting to survive, and of inner and outer landscapes
of two people living where they do not fit in.
It is also the story of Skagen, before
it became a community of artists. A hundred years later, Skagen
became world-famous because of the painters who lived and worked
here. The novel is inspired by a true story.
