Skrig under vand

Screams under water

Winner of Politiken's crime-novel competition 2010

ABOUT THE COMPETITION

In June 2009 JP/Politiken Publishers arranged a crime-novel competition in collaboration with Danish paper Dagbladet Politiken:

"In recent years, the good crime-novel has captivated all of us with its often sharp perspective on our time and our society. Taking a stand on everything that surrounds us, it also solves the riddle, exposes the motive and finds the killer."

The prize was 27,000 EURO, a publishing contract as well as nationwide publicity. During January and February of this year, more than 100 manuscripts were submitted to the panel of judges consisting of internationally renowned crime writers Jussi Adler-Olsen, Anna Grue og Sissel-Jo Gazan, cultural journalists from Dagbladet Politiken as well as movie producer Peter Aalbæk from the company Zentropa.

The winner was declared in April 2010 as being the intriguing and thrilling crime-novel created by the joint efforts of Jeanette Øbro Gerlow & Ole Tornbjerg. It is scheduled for publication in the summer of 2010 by JP/Politiken Publishers.

EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK

The baby in the bathwater no longer screams.

She savours the silence.

Yet the sound has an echo, reverberating and whining inside her head. She really needs some peace and quiet. Is that too much to ask? Just a bit of silence. And some sleep.

During the day, she sits on the sofa, covering her ears.

The child bawls around the clock, driving her insane. The shrieks are like a constant accusation; you're not good enough, you're not adequate, you can't care for me properly.

The child has turned against her.
