ABOUT THE BOOK
Above a moor in the Danish countryside,
the nation's biggest art patron Claes Ejnar Jensen is flying his
sports plane, conducting his annual trip around Jutland to visit
various artists' workshops. In the heather below he sees a purple
cross on which a naked, body painted woman lies with a pig's head
in her hands.
Before calling the police he shoots a
picture of the woman, and the photo travels around the world
becoming famously known as "death art". The police investigation
points to a well-known painter as the killer, but the case drags
out and meanwhile another piece of "death art" is discovered in
Copenhagen. The pressure builds and fear of yet another "death
happening" rises.
In a different part of Denmark, the
young Mona Lisa Kirk is on her way to her wedding, looking forward
to a future as a priest. A motorcycle accident radically changes
that future, and Mona has to adapt to a new life as a cripple
living in the suburbs.
Here she moves in next door to Chief
Inspector Berg who takes advantage of Mona's ability to recognize
patterns. She is to help him catch the death artist and prevent the
perpetrator from killing again. Mona's life is disturbed by a
family curse and her love for two men: the army surgeon Nino and
the farmer Emil.
