THE SECRET DIARY OF BARBARA TRISTAN
MILLER - vol. 1 in the series
When thirteen-year-old Barbara is given
a diary as a birthday present, it is only natural for her to write
down some of her thoughts about her disorderly life, her parents'
chaotic marriage, and her madly annoying little brother, who keeps
exosing Barbara to ridicule in the school newspaper.
And all the while Barbara wonders how
to deal with her ever-attentive courting cousin Lasse, who is
nothing like the boy next door, on whom she has a huge crush. And
why can her mother never give her help when she needs it? What is
Mum doing in India anyway?
The secret diary of Barbara Tristan
Miller is a bitter-sweet coming-of-age story of a young girl,
dealing with a world of heartache, friendship and parenthood, that
is familiar to teenagers and parents alike.
THE DIFFICULT BEGINNINGS OF BARBARA
TRISTAN MILLER - vol. 2 in the series
"Here we go again. Got a diary from Mom
for my birthday. 'It's important to express one's feelings at your
age,' she said and cupped my face with her hands. I hate it when
she does that."
Barbara has turned 16 and life hasn't
gotten any easier. What do you do about that sex stuff if you don't
really feel like it? And why is it that your father has to go and
get prostate cancer just when your life is about to begin?
Barbara decides to move away from home
and work as an au-pair for her mother's friend Helle Hannah AKA the
Leopard Lady. Here she showers her son, Baby, with love and
affection. And here she finds Helle Hannah on the floor one day,
knocked out on booze and pills. Is it true that her ex-husband
really tried to kill her like she claims? And is it even up to
Barbara to find out?
The book is a tragic-comic tale about Barbara, a girl straddling
childhood and adulthood in a completely chaotic family.
